Documents for this route
Romanian vehicle papers
A car registered in Romania comes with its registration certificate (certificat de înmatriculare) and its vehicle identity card (CIV, cartea de identitate a vehiculului). A new car comes with its certificate of conformity (CoC) and the invoice. You need the originals to register the car in Italy.

Register it through an STA counter (Sportello Telematico dell'Automobilista), such as an ACI office or a vehicle-registration agency, or at the Motorizzazione Civile. Bring your ID, your tax code (codice fiscale) and the Romanian documents, which offices usually ask to see with a sworn translation; for a new car, the CoC and the invoice. The rules were updated in December 2025, so ask the office or agency for its current list.

For VAT, a car counts as new if it has done no more than 6,000 km or was delivered within 6 months of its first registration. VAT on a new car is paid in the country where it is registered, so a new car bought abroad and registered in Italy pays Italian VAT.

Questions about this route
Does the car need Romanian temporary plates?
No. The car travels on our transporter as cargo, so it needs no plates, temporary plates or road insurance for the journey.
Who registers the car in Italy?
You, or an agency on your behalf, at an STA counter or the Motorizzazione Civile. The rules for cars bought in another EU country were updated in December 2025 (Decree 581/2025), so ask the office or agency for its current list of documents.
Can you collect from a dealer or auction in Romania?
Yes. We collect from dealers, private sellers and auction compounds in Romania. For an auction car, send us the release code or PIN before pickup.
Do I have to travel to Romania for the pickup?
No. Whoever hands over the car, its keys and documents can do it: the seller, the dealer or the auction compound.
When do I pay?
Private buyers pay on delivery in Italy, when the car is in front of them. Businesses pay by invoice after delivery.
Do you carry new cars for dealers in Italy?
Yes. Most of the cars we carry from Craiova and Pitești are new cars for dealers in Italy, and we carry cars for private buyers too. Dealers get prices per car excluding VAT and pay by invoice after delivery.
Is the car insured on the way?
Yes. Our CMR liability insurance is included at no extra cost. Compensation follows the CMR limit, in most European courts 8.33 SDR per kilogram of the car's weight, about €15,100 for a 1,500 kg car. If your car is worth more, consider insuring it yourself for the journey.
Can you transport a car that doesn't run?
Yes. We load non-running and damaged cars by winch. Tell us in the form and we include it in your price.
