Register it at your local vehicle registration office (Zulassungsstelle). Bring the Bulgarian registration certificate, the purchase contract or invoice, your ID or passport with proof of your registered address, your insurer's electronic insurance confirmation (eVB number) and the certificate of conformity (CoC). For a car over 3 years old, bring proof of a valid main inspection (HU). The office also asks for a SEPA direct debit mandate for the vehicle tax.
Official source: evz.deVAT on a new car
For VAT, a car counts as new if it has done no more than 6,000 km or was delivered within 6 months of its first registration. VAT on a new car is paid in the country where it is registered, so a new car bought abroad and registered in Germany pays German VAT.

Questions about this route
Does the car need Bulgarian transit plates?
No. The car travels on our transporter as cargo, so it needs no plates, transit plates or road insurance for the journey.
Do I need a German inspection (HU) before registration?
For a car over 3 years old you need proof of a valid main inspection (HU). The registration office may accept the car's latest Bulgarian inspection, so ask it first.
Can you collect from a dealer or auction in Sofia?
Yes. We collect from dealers, private sellers and auction compounds in Sofia. For an auction car, send us the release code or PIN before pickup.
Do I have to travel to Bulgaria for the pickup?
No. Whoever hands over the car, its keys and documents can do it: the seller, the dealer or the auction compound.
When do I pay?
Private buyers pay on delivery in Germany, when the car is in front of them. Businesses pay by invoice after delivery.
Is the car insured on the way?
Yes. Our CMR liability insurance is included at no extra cost. Compensation follows the CMR limit, in most European courts 8.33 SDR per kilogram of the car's weight, about €15,100 for a 1,500 kg car. If your car is worth more, consider insuring it yourself for the journey.
Can you transport a car that doesn't run?
Yes. We load non-running and damaged cars by winch. Tell us in the form and we include it in your price.
